Yokohama pneumatic fenders are manufactured with mould by Korean production technology. All Yokohama type pneumatic fenders are manufactured and tested comply with ISO 17357.

Floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders is made of synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheet with compressed air inside to enable it to float on the water and work as a shock absorber between two ships (ship-to-ship), or between ships and berthing structures when they come alongside each other on the water.

Note: The floating pneumatic rubber fenders have sometimes been colloquially referred to as “Yokohama Fenders” or “Yokohama type fenders” – ISO 17357:2002 Ships and marine technology — High-pressure floating pneumatic rubber fenders. But the real Yokohama pneumatic fenders are made by mould.

Advantages of Floating Yokohama Pneumatic Fenders

Yokohama pneumatic fenders have better performance, better quality and longer life span than the traditional Chinese made pneumatic fenders. 

Floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders can be easily handled and installed with guy-rope or guy-chain because of its light weight. Yokohama pneumatic fenders can resist the shearing force and maintain energy absorption level under inclined compression up to 15 degrees. Meanwhile, provide the low and comparatively even hull pressure.

Yokohama pneumatic fenders are Consisted of several synthetic-cord layers and tough abrasion resistant out rubber, they have consistent performance even under rough condition and cyclic load. The maintenance cost and damage risk are minimised too. The best material also ensure the self-buoyancy and extremely long service life.

General Requirements of Floating Yokohama Pneumatic Fenders

Floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders consist of a cylindrical airbag with hemispherical heads at both ends, which shall be filled with compressed air. The basic body construction of this fender consist of an outer rubber, synthetic-tire-cord layers, for reinforcement and inner rubber. All of these shall be vulcanized firmly by mould.

The outer rubber shall protect the cord layers and inner rubber from abrasion and other external forces. This rubber compound shall have sufficient tensile and tear resistance strength to withstand anticipated weather conditions and severe usage. The inner rubber layer shall seal the air inside.

The reinforcement synthetic-tyre-cord layers shall be strong enough to hold the internal pressure. The flange opening shall be at either end, or both ends, for convenience of air charge and water filling, if Required. Yokohama pneumatic fenders of diameter 2500mm and larger shall be equipped with a safety valve for releasing excess internal pressure when the fenders are over-compressed accidentally. Yokohama pneumatic fenders which are smaller than 2500mm in diameter, can be equipped with a safety valve if required. The Yokohama pneumatic fender shall be equipped with an air valve for inflation and checking air pressure.

Classification of Floating Yokohama Pneumatic Fenders

Yokohama pneumatic fenders types are defined as follows:

  • Type I — net type Yokohama pneumatic fenders covered by a chain net, wire net or fibre net. Each end of longitudinal chains, wires or fibres are be linked together with one or two ring(s), which shall be connected with a guy-chain or guy-rope. Usually, these nets will be fitted with used tires or rubber sleeves to provide additional protection to the Yokohama pneumatic fenders body.
  • Type II — sling type Yokohama pneumatic fenders have a lifting device on each end

Initial internal pressures of Yokohama Pneumatic Fenders are defined as follows:

  • pneumatic 50 (initial internal pressure 50 kPa)
  • pneumatic 80 (initial internal pressure 80 kPa)

Floating Yokohama Pneumatic Fenders Performance

The performance of floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders shall be specified in terms of Guaranteed Energy Absorption (GEA), Reaction Force at GEA deflection, and Hull Pressure at GEA deflection.

ISO 17357 Approved Yokohama Pneumatic Fenders

ISO 17357 Ships and marine technology – High-pressure floating pneumatic rubber fenders, is widely acceptable international standard. It specifies the material, performance and dimensions of high-pressure floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders, which are intended to be used for the berthing and mooring of a ship to another ship or berthing structure. It also specifies the test and inspection procedures for high-pressure floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders.

All floating Yokohama pneumatic fenders are produced and tested in compliance with ISO 17357. We can provide the CCS, LR, and BV third party certificate.
